Did you make any New Year’s resolutions for 2021? Unless they were ‘stay in more’ and ‘wash my hands more often’, they’re unlikely to have survived the year…

We’re all hoping for better things from 2022 – but if this year has taught us anything, it’s that life can surprise you. Here are a few things you can do in 2022 to make sure you and your finances are ready for anything.

1: Create a budget

Whether or not you are on a debt solution, creating a budget and keeping it updated is a vital part of staying in control of your finances. A good budget helps you identify areas you might be able to cut back – and perhpas even find some money to put aside as savings. Starting on 21st Janaury we are running a free Budgeting Bootcamp, to help you get back on track in the New Year. It’s free (and you can unsubscribe at any time).  Just sign up here.

2:  Start saving

Even if you’re on a debt solution you’re ‘allowed’ to budget for a little savings pot: up to £20 a month, or 10% of your disposable income, whichever is the lower. In fact, we encourage you to do so! We’re campaigning for all debt solution customers to have access to Help To Save accounts – but if you’re entitled to certain benefits, you may be eligible already. Read our latest Help To Save blog post to find out more.

3:  Work on your credit score

If your debt solution is coming to an end in 2021, you might be thinking about starting to repair your credit score. In fact, even if you still have a way to go before finishing your debt solution, there are already things you can do now for a better credit score in the future. Read our credit score blog post for tips.

4:  Find out if you can get any financial support

Every year, people miss out on a staggering amount of money in unclaimed benefits. We’ve got a tool to help make sure you’re not one of them! Find out more about our benefits checker.

5:  Protect what’s important

The events of this year have made a lot of us realise how important it is to protect the things and people we care about in case something goes wrong. Is it time you thought about getting some cover? Check out our blog on life insurance and protection insurance for everything you need to know.

Whatever you’re hoping for from 2022, we hope your year is happy, safe…and altogether less eventful than 2021! From all of us at Financial Wellness Group, a very Happy New Year.
