Talking about money: a round-up

It’s Talk Money Week, so all week we’re encouraging our customers, colleagues and friends to have more conversations about money. Why? Because being honest, sharing advice and asking for help if you need is good not just for your wallet but for your overall wellbeing.

So with that in mind, here’s a round-up of tips from our blog to help you start conversations about money with your partner, family, friends and colleagues.

Talk to us if you’re struggling

First of all, if you’re one of our Debt Management Plan, IVA or DAS customers, please let us know if you’re struggling financially, whether it’s because of rising prices or a drop in your income.

Talk to your family

Family issues – like caring for someone with dementia – can be even more complicated when financial difficulties are involved. Being open with family members about debt, and making sure they’re claiming any help they’re entitled to, can make everything a little easier.

How your partner’s debts can affect you

It’s important to be honest with your partner about your finances if you can – here’s why.

Money and mental health

Money and mental health are intrinsically linked – and they can both be hard to talk about. In this post we look at the relationship between our money and our mental health, and what you can do if you find yourself struggling.

Talk about scams

In July, the consumer body Which? found that consumers had been conned out of more than £2.3bn in the space of a year. Read our blog about how to report scams and keep yourself safe – and then share with your friends and family to help keep their money safe too. Here’s some specific advice for Black Friday and Cyber Monday too.

Help To Save – free money from the government

Did you know that if you’re on a low income and receiving certain benefits, you could get 50p from the government for every pound you save? It’s true! Read our blog to find out how it works – and if you know anyone who could benefit, let them know.

Making the most of debt forums

When you’re in problem debt, you might find it hard to talk about. One solution can be to find people in a similar solution and talk to them online. Read our guide to finding the most appropriate online forum and getting the most benefit from it.
