Welcome changes to bankruptcy in Scotland
Some of the temporary changes to bankruptcy (also known as sequestration) that were introduced in Scotland as an emergency coronavirus measure have today become permanent.
This means:
- The fees for bankruptcy have been reduced, to £150 for the standard bankruptcy process and £50 for the Minimal Assets Process.
- These fees have been removed altogether for people in receipt of Universal Credit, Employment & Support Allowance and tax credits.
- The debt threshold for a creditor to make someone bankrupt has gone up, from £3,000 to £10,000.
These are positive changes that will make a big difference for indebted people on low incomes.
