We’re campaigning to make the Insolvency Register private: 4 ways you can help

As you might know, when you start an insolvency solution like bankruptcy, an IVA, or a Debt Relief Order, your name is recorded on the public Individual Insolvency Register and published in the Gazette.

We think it’s time this practice came to an end, and we’re trying to make that happen. But we need your help. Click here to sign our petition, and read on to find out more.

It's time to end the public shaming of people in debt #NoShameInDebt

Why we’re doing this

Being in debt is nothing to be ashamed of. Neither is starting a debt solution – in fact, getting the help you need to deal with your debts is the responsible thing to do, and it’s something to be proud of.

Publishing the details of everyone who starts an insolvency solution sends the wrong message about debt. And it puts some people off starting an insolvency solution – even though that might be the most suitable way for them to deal with their debts.

“The register has stopped me from being able to pay off my debt quicker, as it’s seen so negatively when you’re on the list” – a customer who turned down an insolvency solution this year.

In fact, since 2019 more than 2,000 Financial Wellness Group customers have turned down the insolvency solution we recommended them as they didn’t want to appear on the public register. Are you one of them?
